The City of West University Place, located east of Bellaire and south of the Upper Kirby area is a sought after island suburb offering easy commute to all areas of the city. A number of professionals call West University Place home. It's close proximity to the Texas Medical Center means the area is home to many doctors and medical professionals.
The city was founded in the 1910s as a far-away suburb of Houston. Most homes were small bungalows and Cape Cod style houses. However, the past decade has brought tremendous change to the area. Most of the areas first homes have been demolished to make way for larger and more modern homes. The city is heavily protected from industrial and large commercial development. This allows West University Place to maintain a strong residential small-community feel to it. Most homes, by law, are on large lots of with stylish lawns and green space.
Newer homes in West University Place include an abundance of different styles including contemporary, traditional French and southern colonial designs, Tudor homes and Tuscan inspired estates. The area is one of Houston's most sought after communities and continues to show its appeal to Houston professionals.

West University Place is home to a number of parks and recreational areas. The West University Place Recreation Center includes a swimming pool, gymnasium and sports fields. The area is home to many smaller parks throughout giving the city large amounts of green space and family recreation. The community hosts a number of youth sports and is known for its excellent local schools.
