Bellaire is its own city, sepreate from the City of Houston. The area, in the southwest side of town, was founded in 1911. During the first half of the 20th century, the city was home to open farmland and agriculture. However, during the post-World War II housing boom, new ranche homes and small residences were built along Bellaire's tree lines streets. Over the past twenty years, strong redevelopment has occured in Bellaire. Today, you will find newer estate style homes as well as Tuscan and traditional newer homes. Bellaire offers large lots and luxurious homesites. Residents enjoy seprate parks, public works and police and fire from the City of Houston. Known for its saftey, the area has become a haven for a small-town feel in the big city.

Bellaire still offers a unique small town feel despite its position in the middle of the city. Bellaire holds an annual dog parade each October, as well as a Memorial Day parade. Known for its high rated schools and libraries, Bellaire boasts a strong commitment to education, hosting some of Houston ISD's top schools including Bellaire High School. Bellaire is known for its strong commitment to youth sports and strong family feel. Strong zoning requirements favor stable residential streets and clusters of retail.
