Montrose is one of Houston's most eclectic and personality-filled neighborhoods. Founded over 100 years ago as an early suburban Houston community, the area was linked to Downtown by street car. The area became the Bohemian center of Houston during the 1960s and 70s and has remained an eclectic area. Montrose is home to a strong mix of housing options. Individuals will find older bring two story homes, many dating back over 70 years. A number of multi-plex and smaller apartment buildings are present in the area as well. Many homes have been torn down to make room for newer townhome developments and smaller midrise buildings. Driving down Montrose streets, one will notice a striking assortment of older and newer homes, bungalows and low-rise apartment buildings.
